Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Sabah, Malaysia


The design and build contract involves the upgrading and expansion works of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport Project (Package 1 - Terminal Building and Landside Infrastructure & Facilities).

Upon the completion of the upgrading and expansion works, the Airport achieved a full two-tier operation with total Terminal Building area of approximately 99,136 m2. It is expected to serve 9 million passengers per annum and accommodate 3,200 passengers (1,700 domestic bound passengers and 1,500 international bound passengers) during peak season. Following the successful completion of this airport, WCT was awarded the Contractor of the Year Award by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) at the Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Award 2010.

The general Scope of Works under Package 1 for the Terminal Building and the Landside Infrastructures and Facilities are as follows:
- Detail ground survey and investigation
- Demolition works
- Airport drainage system
- 4 lanes forecourt road
- Terminal buildings expansion
- Centre utility building
- 2 level contact pier
- Upgrading of new roof system
- Civil works (Earthwork, Road, Drainage, Sewerage, Water Supply & Reticulation, Elevated Water Tank, Sewerage Treatment Plant, etc)
- Structural work
- Architectural work
- Landscape
- M&E and special equipments including passenger loading bridge, visual guidance docking system, baggage handling system, master clock system, flight information display system, public address system, building control system, security screening and x-ray system, CCTV & MATV, fire protection system and emergency shower

Contract Sum : RM704 million

Contract Period : 45.5 months

Completion Date: 4th March 2010
